MHD generator

Could someone please explain or point me to a source that can explain the following equation for a MHD generator?
ε=vBa where a is the length along the direction of the magnetic field. r=ρa/bc
I swear I've looked all over the web.

A relevant equation I can think of is F=IℓB.
