What's protein transduction?

What's protein transduction?

Is it a process by which proteins manufactured in one cell can be transferred into another cell or is it just another way of saying transduction proteins which are used in signal transduction (propagation/relaying)?

Protein transduction is the cellular internatlisation of proteins from the environment. Some proteins have the ability to penetrate cell membranes, there is a lot of interest for using this for gene therapy by combining said proteins with DNA.
