Richardson extrapolation and differential equations

When numerically solving a differential equation with boundary conditions, I create a roster of n+1 points and solve a (n-1)*(n-1) matrix to compute the values at the (n-1) unknowns. Now I wanted to know: is it possible to use richardson extrapolation to improve the result for any differential equation?
