I figured out that Qawwali is the the best/only music I can listen to while studying math. Now that the whole Mozart effect has been debunked, I wonder if I can research this...

Do you mean the sufi music or something else? Can you provide a link of what you mean, please.

Yeah.

I got hooked on Nusrat a long time ago through Peter Gabriel's label. Then I dialed him up on Jango and found other cool stuff. For some reason it is not distracting and seems to help me focus.

My son has caught flu and the doctor prescribed a medicine that costs $136. I have a drug discount card that brought that down to $118. Then we have primary insurance that brought the cost down to $52 and secondary insurance that paid the rest bringing the total to $0.
I hope your son is feeling better soon.

Thanks lisab. I just kissed his forehead (like my mom used to do for me) and his temperature seemed normal so I'm sending him back to school tomorrow.

Huff Post has really gone downhill.

"Lone gunman kills two people for xmas at the mall, a couple of miles from where Om lives."

Aren't twice that many people trampled to death during Black Friday Walmart Fest, at each store?

Why aren't there metal detectors for any public space? Get rid of the guns. There is no reason for them. Disarm everyone.

And no, this is not an invititation to people to squak about their rights to carry dangerous weapons. Only if we make efforts to restrict people from getting in with a weapon that can kill multiple people at a distance, can we have any semblance of safety or sanity.

And I suppose you don't understand what they say?

I like Sufi music too, only a different type-- Turkish sufi music. Which rely mostly on the instrument ney/flute [my favourite instrument]. This piece is called 'quiescence':

I also adore Sufi poems, here's one by Ibn Al Rumi (Jelalludin Rumi):

If only all parents fulfill this simple act adequately.

Hope your son gets well, Jimmy.

I could be a "lone gunman", and since my wife started buying all my outerwear, I would likely be a "lone gunman in a hoodie". My wife owns more hoodies than anybody I know, and now I have about 5 of them, despite never ever haven owned one before. With cooler weather here, I only have one old sweatshirt that is NOT a hoodie. I hope G. Zimmerman doesn't have accomplices in this area.

Went to the office Christmas party at a local restaraunt yesterday. It was hard to enjoy our meal when it's so cold that everyone had to wear their coats.

That's beautiful. In north Africa, there is a more primal form of esoteric "music" called gnawa or diwan. I'm a disciple of it. It's part of some shamanistic rituals brought up by the descendents of african slaves in the northern shores of the continent. Beauty is not what they look for, they go far beyond it to the deepest layers of our brains and minds. In my view, it's one of the most sophistcated and powerful grooves you can find on the planet.
