Find the size of Driving couple, if given the power?

In summary, the conversation discusses finding the size of a driving couple based on the power and speed of a rotating shaft. The formula for calculating work done by a couple and the relationship between power and torque are also mentioned. The correct answer is determined to be 32Nm.

Homework Statement

Not really HW, just revision.

A shaft rotating at 3000 revolutions per minute is transmitting power of 10000 watts. find the size of the driving couple.

Homework Equations

Total wrk done by couple = 2.F.r.θ
Work = Torque . θ ( angle of rotation )
Power = work done / time

The Attempt at a Solution

60 seconds = 3000 revolutions
1 second = ?

Ans came to 50

Using ω = 2∏f resulted in ω = 100∏

Power = (Torque . θ)/t where θ/t = ω

Subject of the formula gave me 9.54 as an answer. When it should be 32Nm

What have I done wrong?

Oh wow!, I am such a noob!

Sorry for wasting your time.

I did have the correct answer. ie my reasoning was correct. My calculator skills on the other hand let me down :(

I did 10000 / 100∏
when i should have done 10000 / (100 * ∏ )

It was a stupid mistake...

1. What is a Driving couple?

A driving couple is a mechanical component that is used to transfer power from one rotating element to another. It typically consists of two gears or pulleys that are connected by a shaft or belt.

2. How is the size of a Driving couple determined?

The size of a driving couple is determined by several factors including the amount of power being transferred, the speed at which it needs to rotate, and the torque requirements. These factors are used to calculate the appropriate size of the gears or pulleys needed for the driving couple.

3. What is the unit of measurement for the size of a Driving couple?

The size of a driving couple is typically measured in terms of the diameter of the gears or pulleys. This is usually expressed in either inches or millimeters.

4. Can the size of a Driving couple be adjusted?

Yes, the size of a driving couple can be adjusted by changing the size of the gears or pulleys. However, it is important to ensure that the new size is able to handle the power and torque requirements of the application.

5. What happens if the size of the Driving couple is too small?

If the size of the driving couple is too small, it may not be able to handle the power being transferred and can lead to failures or malfunctions. It is important to properly size the driving couple to ensure efficient and reliable operation.
