Can anyone solve this mcq on electrostatics with proper explanation
If a net charge is given to a solid insulating sphere then:
a. it must be distributed uniformly in it's volume
b. it may be distributed uniformly in it's volume
c. must be distributed uniformly on its surface.
d. The distribution would depend on whether other charges are present or not.

do you know what’s the difference between an insulator and a conductor when they get electrostatically charged? if you do, then try to read the question again and focus on those underlined words [key words], you would know the answer easily.

Insulators are substances which impede the free flow of electrons from atom to atom and molecule to molecule. If charge is supplied to an uncharged insulator at a point, it will tend to remain there.

The presence of other charges outside a conductor will result in induced charges being produced on the surface of the conductor because the free electrons can move inside the conductor. What do you feel will happen in the case of an insulator?
