Is the Apocalyptic Magic Square connected to religious symbolism and beliefs?

In summary, the conversation discusses the Apocalyptic Magic Square, a 6 by 6 square with a total of 666 and every number being a prime, and its mathematical properties. There is also mention of a similar cube called the Cube of Satariel and its connections to the number 216, which has symbolic significance in various religions and in the film Pi. The Zohar, a mystical text, also mentions the number 216 in relation to the splitting of the Red Sea in the story of Moses.

In honor of today's date, June 6, 2006, I've been circulating the Apocalyptic Magic Square around the office (yes, I get some strange looks, but I'm used to that).

This remarkable object is a 6 by 6 magic square with a total of 666, with every number in it being a prime. This object can easily be found on the internet, but the sites I've seen only present it -- they don't discuss it's mathematical attributes.

Is this object very special? I know there are algorithms for producing magic squares, but is it possible to use an algorithm to guarantee a magic square using only prime numbers? Is it possible to construct prime based magic squares of arbitrary size and/or sum? Is it possible to show that the Apocalyptic Magic Square is unique in any way? Any information on these questions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Why don't you try this one I created in 2006:
The Cube of Satariel (by Jason Shiffman):

This cube was created from 216 singular numbers. Every
row on every face including corner to corner add up to
1,998, which is 666 multiplied by 3. Every number added
with the number in the same spot on the opposite side adds
up to 666. Example 128+538=666. 310+356=666...etc, etc.

In the film Pi, Max becomes obsessed with a 216-digit number
in his quest to find the numeric equation behind existence,
and is told by a group of Hasidic Jews that it represents the
true name of God.
As six cubed, 216 is also symbolic of the Mark of the Beast in
Christianity. This has been expressed in the Left Behind series.
This is interesting as the quotient of 144,000/666 is 216.
216216216... These two numbers are used extensively throughout
the book of Revelation in the Holy Bible, where the Mark of the
Beast is identified.
The 216th verse of the Apocalypse: (Revelation 13:4)
" And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast"
.. covers the first half of Exodus, including Pharaoh's enslavement
of the Israelites, the birth of Moses, the deliverance from Egypt,
the crossing of the Red Sea, and the Revelation at Mount Sinai.
In exploring the mystical dimension of these dramatic events,
the Zohar treats the nature of evil and it relation to the divine
realm, the romance of Moses and Shekhinah, and the inner meaning of
the Ten Commandments. In the context of the miraculous splitting of
the Red Sea, Rabbi Shim'on reveals the mysterious Name of 72, a
complex divine name consisting of 216 letters (72 triads), formed out
of three verses in Exodus 14.

1. What is an Apocalyptic Magic Square?

An Apocalyptic Magic Square is a numerical grid that follows specific rules and contains numbers that add up to the same sum in all directions (horizontally, vertically, and diagonally). It is believed to have mystical or supernatural properties and has been used in various cultures for divination or spiritual purposes.

2. How is an Apocalyptic Magic Square different from a regular magic square?

An Apocalyptic Magic Square is different from a regular magic square in that it contains a specific number of cells (usually 25) and the numbers used must follow a specific pattern or sequence. Regular magic squares can have any number of cells and the numbers used can be in any order.

3. What is the origin of Apocalyptic Magic Squares?

The origin of Apocalyptic Magic Squares is not definitively known, but they have been found in many ancient cultures such as Chinese, Indian, Arabic, and European. Some believe they were used for divination or as symbols of the universe, while others believe they were created for mathematical or recreational purposes.

4. Are there any beliefs or superstitions associated with Apocalyptic Magic Squares?

Yes, there are various beliefs and superstitions associated with Apocalyptic Magic Squares. Some cultures believe that they hold mystical or magical powers and can bring good luck or protection to those who possess them. Others believe that they can be used for divination or to communicate with spirits.

5. Can anyone create an Apocalyptic Magic Square?

Technically, anyone can create an Apocalyptic Magic Square by following the specific rules and pattern, but it requires a lot of time and effort. It is also believed that only those with a strong understanding of mathematics and spirituality can create a truly powerful and effective Apocalyptic Magic Square.
