In summary, the conversation discusses the use of a 50g calculator to solve a probability problem involving a sample of 7 batteries from a lot of 80 batteries. The main point is that a calculator should only be used after determining a strategy, and the concept of the binomial distribution is important in this type of problem. The conversation also mentions the formula P(X=Y) (n,p,x) and clarifies that it represents the probability of finding exactly 3 defective batteries in the sample.

how do I use the 50g to solve this one ?

in a 80 battery lot there are 13 defectives; then, if it is taken a sample of 7 batteries. Which is the probability to find exactly 3 defectives batteries?

You don't use a calculator to solve a problem. You use a calculator to do the calculations after you have determined a strategy. What do you know about the "binomial distribution"?

...a strategy ?

You can use calculators to evaluate formulas, some even have formulas built in, by YOU have to know which formula to use! Again, what do you know about the "binomial distribution"?

I only know this one P(X=Y) (n,p,x)

Good, do you know what that means?

What is probability and how is it calculated?

Probability is the likelihood of a certain event occurring. It is calculated by dividing the number of favorable outcomes by the total number of possible outcomes.

What is the probability of having 3 defective batteries in a lot of 7?

The probability of having 3 defective batteries in a lot of 7 can be calculated using the binomial distribution formula, which is 7C3 * (p)^(3) * (1-p)^(7-3), where p is the probability of a battery being defective.

What is the expected number of defective batteries in a lot of 7?

The expected number of defective batteries in a lot of 7 can be calculated by multiplying the total number of batteries (7) by the probability of a battery being defective. This is also known as the mean or average number of defective batteries.

How can I use the HP50g to solve probability problems?

The HP50g has built-in functions for solving probability problems, such as the binomial distribution function and the mean function. By entering the appropriate values and using these functions, the calculator can quickly and accurately solve probability problems.

What factors can affect the probability of having 3 defective batteries in a lot of 7?

The probability of having 3 defective batteries in a lot of 7 can be affected by factors such as the quality control of the manufacturer, the type of batteries in the lot, and the condition in which the batteries were stored. These factors can impact the probability of a battery being defective and therefore influence the overall probability of having 3 defective batteries in the lot.
