Have any of you used the newly formatted, Section VIII Div., 2 yet? I have been using it for a while and noticed some things in it are just strange. Any thoughts?

Thanks

Hi Matt,
I don't use it much and haven't looked through the most recent version, but I was wondering what it is you saw that might be different. Anything significant?

The equations that are used to represent the fatigue curves, they don't even return the values publish in the table.

What is ASME Section VIII Div., 2?

ASME Section VIII Div., 2 is a code that sets the standard for designing and constructing pressure vessels. It is used to ensure the safety and reliability of these vessels, which are used in various industries such as oil and gas, chemical, and power generation.

What is the purpose of ASME Section VIII Div., 2?

The main purpose of ASME Section VIII Div., 2 is to provide guidelines for the design, fabrication, inspection, and testing of pressure vessels. It also aims to ensure that these vessels are built to withstand the intended pressure and are safe to use.

What are the key differences between ASME Section VIII Div., 1 and Div., 2?

ASME Section VIII Div., 1 is the more commonly used code and is applicable to most pressure vessel designs. Div., 2, on the other hand, is specifically for vessels with a maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) of more than 15 psig. Div., 2 also allows for more flexibility in design and materials, as well as more rigorous testing requirements.

Who is responsible for complying with ASME Section VIII Div., 2?

The manufacturers, designers, and owners of pressure vessels are responsible for complying with ASME Section VIII Div., 2. They must ensure that the vessels are designed, fabricated, inspected, and tested in accordance with the code to ensure their safety and reliability.

What are the consequences of not following ASME Section VIII Div., 2?

Failure to comply with ASME Section VIII Div., 2 can result in serious consequences, including accidents, injuries, and fatalities. It can also lead to legal repercussions and damage to a company's reputation. It is crucial to adhere to the code to ensure the safety of individuals and the integrity of pressure vessels.
