Migiro, also known as Asha-Rose Migiro, is a Tanzanian lawyer and politician. She was born on July 9, 1956 in Songea, Tanzania. She obtained her law degree from the University of Dar es Salaam and went on to earn a Master of Laws degree from the University of Konstanz in Germany. She served as Tanzania's Minister of Community Development, Gender and Children from 2000 to 2006 and then as the country's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation from 2006 to 2007.
The No. 2 job at the UN refers to the position of Deputy Secretary-General. This is the second-highest ranking position in the United Nations and is responsible for assisting the Secretary-General in managing the day-to-day operations of the organization. The Deputy Secretary-General is appointed by the Secretary-General and approved by the General Assembly.
Migiro was nominated for the No. 2 job at the UN due to her extensive experience in international affairs and diplomacy. As the former Minister of Foreign Affairs for Tanzania, she has a strong understanding of global issues and has worked closely with the UN on various initiatives.
