you can get a nice averatec for about $950 and it comes with dvdrw and everything but with that budget I would go with ibm.

Well for me it is more a matter of personal preference. I like toshiba, acer, averatec, etc. because they give you the technology at a cheaper price; in fact I have an acer laptop. I respect the IBM brand and I consider them high-end. If by CDN you mean Canadian dollars then that is a lot of money... you should be able to get the best vaio for that.

They certainly have not lived up to the hype [Some blame poor marketing by Microsoft.]... and they're probably not for everybody right now. However, mine (a Motion M1200) has been just what I have needed for the past 2.5 years. I lecture with it (and a projector). I'll probably buy another tabletPC when I upgrade. If and when the tabletPCs become more mainstream, the prices would probably drop.

The hybrid tablet laptops are nice, especially if you are in a Network Opps center trying to ballance a Laptop on your knees while configing a 2850 ;-)
