MP3 Video Files Freeze Up In Windows Movie Maker

In summary, the conversation is about finding a solution to fix the reduced picture quality of a video after converting it from MP3 to WMV format. The person suggests using VirtualDub with AVISynth or WinFF for converting the video, and also recommends updating video drivers and clearing temp files. They also clarify that MPEG Layer 3 only supports audio frames and ask for more details about the video track in the AVI container.

Is there any way to fix this? I tried converting the mp3 files to wmv files last night, but it reduces the picture quality by a lot so the picture quality looks all fuzzy. Is there any other free video editing software out there that supports mp3 video files?

MPEG Layer 3 only supports audio frames. Do you mean you have an AVI container with an MP3 soundtrack and some type of video track? If so, what is the compression on the video track?
Try using VirtualDub in combination with http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/Main_Page . If anything, AVISynth should allow you to convert your video file to uncompressed AVI.

While I like VirtualDub and http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/Main_Page for editing video,
...for converting video, you might be happy with WinFF, which is a front-end to ffmpeg.
