A saturated mixture is heated, volume is doubled and pressure remains the same.

In summary, To find the temperature at state 2, use the pressure tables and interpolation to get the specific volume v2. Then, use the table to find the specific internal energy value for state 2, which when multiplied by the mass, will give the internal energy.

Homework Statement

A saturated water mixture is heated.

P1=200kPa
m=0.5kg
V1=0.3m^3
V2=0.6m^3

find
T1
T2
Internal Energy

2. The attempt at a solution

Using the pressure tables and interpolation I found T2=120.12

stuck on T2 and internal energy.

Since you have the mass, for state 2, you can get the specific volume v2 by using v2=V2/m and read that off from the table.

Your table will also have values for specific internal energy, which when multiplied by mass, gives the internal energy.

1. What is a saturated mixture?

A saturated mixture is a mixture of substances that is in equilibrium with both its liquid and vapor phases. This means that the mixture contains the maximum amount of vapor that it can hold at a given temperature and pressure.

2. What happens when a saturated mixture is heated?

When a saturated mixture is heated, its temperature increases. This causes the vapor pressure to increase, leading to a change in the proportions of liquid and vapor in the mixture. However, the overall amount of vapor in the mixture remains the same.

3. How does the volume change when a saturated mixture is heated?

The volume of a saturated mixture will increase when heated. This is because the temperature increase causes the molecules in the mixture to move faster and take up more space, resulting in an increase in volume.

4. What happens to the pressure when a saturated mixture is heated and the volume is doubled?

When the volume of a saturated mixture is doubled, but the pressure remains the same, the temperature will also increase. This is because the molecules in the mixture now have more space to move around, leading to an increase in their kinetic energy and an increase in temperature.

5. Can a saturated mixture be heated indefinitely without changing the pressure?

No, a saturated mixture cannot be heated indefinitely without changing the pressure. As the temperature increases, the vapor pressure will eventually reach a point where it exceeds the pressure of the surrounding environment. This will cause the mixture to boil and the pressure will no longer remain constant.
