In summary, various news channels have been covering Saddam's trial, including clips and highlights being read by someone. It is unclear if the actual trial will be televised. Some people have seen a 5-minute clip of Saddam talking to his judge, while others have watched a 30-minute hearing on CNN. A transcript is available for those who are registered on the CNN site. However, it has been clarified that this was not a trial, but rather a preliminary hearing to inform Saddam of the charges against him, with some arguing taking place. Saddam refused to sign the document without a lawyer present.

If you watch any of the news channels, they're all talking about Saddam's trial, showing clips of it, now there's someone reading running translations of highlights of the trial, but has the actual trial been televised? Does anyone know whether it will be televised or not?

CNN played the whole 30 minute hearing this afternoon. I think you can listen to it if you are registered at the CNN site. If not the transcript is linked below.

From my understanding, it wasn’t a trial. It was just a preliminary hearing telling Saddam what he has been charged with.
