In summary, some of the biggest unsolved problems in astrophysics include dark matter and dark energy, the origin and nature of cosmic rays, the nature of black holes, the search for habitable exoplanets, and the mystery of the expansion rate of the universe. Dark matter is a type of matter that is invisible to traditional telescopes but makes up a significant portion of the mass in the universe. Dark energy is thought to be responsible for the accelerating expansion of the universe and its nature is still unknown. Scientists study black holes through various methods and their effects on surrounding matter and space and time. The search for habitable exoplanets is important because it could lead to the discovery of extraterrestrial life and provide insights into the conditions

so what are some simple unsolved problems in astrophysics, that are interesting. could someone just list some topics out? I've been researching on the interwebz, but can't seem to find a topic that is interesting/simple.
also are there any such topics related to Newtonian mechanics/electricity and magnetism?
I don't have a really advanced background in physics, as I am only taking an introductory college course.
thanks!

bump. specifically, I'm interested in the shape and origin of the Universe.
how can knot theory explain the shape of the Universe? specific info would be helpful. thanks!

What are some of the biggest unsolved problems in astrophysics?

Some of the biggest unsolved problems in astrophysics include dark matter and dark energy, the origin and nature of cosmic rays, the nature of black holes, the search for habitable exoplanets, and the mystery of the expansion rate of the universe.

What is dark matter and why is it important?

Dark matter is a type of matter that does not interact with light or other forms of electromagnetic radiation, making it invisible to traditional telescopes. Its existence is inferred through its gravitational effects on visible matter. Dark matter is important because it makes up a significant portion of the mass in the universe and plays a crucial role in the formation and evolution of galaxies.

What is dark energy and how does it affect the universe?

Dark energy is a type of energy that is thought to be responsible for the accelerating expansion of the universe. It is believed to make up approximately 70% of the total energy in the universe. The nature of dark energy is still unknown, and its presence has a profound impact on the structure and fate of the universe.

How do scientists study black holes?

Scientists study black holes through a variety of methods, including observing their effects on surrounding matter and using gravitational lensing to detect their presence. They also study the effects of black holes on the fabric of space and time, as well as using simulations and mathematical models to understand their behavior.

What is the significance of finding habitable exoplanets?

The search for habitable exoplanets is significant because it could potentially lead to the discovery of extraterrestrial life. Studying these planets and their environments could also provide valuable insights into the conditions necessary for life to exist and the potential for life beyond our own planet.
