Hi,
I am currently 3rd year electrical engineering (telecommunications department). I am really interested in it and I am already thinking about the career. I have pretty high ambitions so I would like to get some advices about the best way to success in engineering work.
I am thinking about starting with some researches in my university, but once I started that I wouldn't have much time for study. I am also thinking about practical work and I don't know when is the best time for that.
I would be really thankful if anybody gave me any advice or short description of his time management during the studies and getting in touch with companies.
Regards,
Niko

Hi Niko,

It's great to hear that you have such high ambitions and are already thinking about your future in engineering. I can offer you some advice on how to succeed in this field.

First of all, it's important to have a strong foundation in your studies. Make sure you are fully understanding and grasping the concepts being taught in your classes. This will lay the groundwork for your future research and practical work.

In terms of time management, it's all about finding a balance between your studies and extracurricular activities. Participating in research at your university is a great way to gain hands-on experience and make connections in the field. However, make sure you are not neglecting your studies in the process. Prioritize your responsibilities and make a schedule to ensure you are effectively managing your time.

When it comes to getting in touch with companies, networking is key. Attend career fairs and networking events, and reach out to professionals in the field for informational interviews. It's never too early to start building connections and gaining insight into the industry.

Additionally, gaining practical experience through internships or co-op programs can greatly benefit your career. Consider applying for these opportunities during your summer breaks or when you have a lighter course load.

Overall, the key to success in engineering is a combination of hard work, time management, and networking. Keep your ambitions high and stay motivated, and you will achieve your goals. Best of luck to you in your studies and future career!

Hi Niko,

Congratulations on pursuing your passion for electrical engineering and thinking ahead about your career success. It's great to see your determination and ambition to excel in this field.

Firstly, I would suggest that you take advantage of the resources and opportunities available in your university. As you mentioned, starting with research is a good idea as it will not only enhance your knowledge and skills, but also give you a chance to network with professors and fellow students who share the same interests. However, it's important to find a balance between research and studying for your courses. Time management is crucial in this aspect, and I recommend creating a schedule that allows you to dedicate time to both areas.

In terms of practical work, it's always beneficial to gain hands-on experience in your field. I would suggest looking for internships or co-op programs during your summer breaks or even part-time during the semester. This will not only give you practical experience but also help you build a professional network and potentially lead to job opportunities after graduation.

Additionally, don't be afraid to reach out to companies or professionals in the industry for advice or mentorship. Attend career fairs, networking events, and conferences to make connections and learn about the industry. Your university may also have a career center or resources for students to connect with companies.

Overall, it's important to have a balance between academic pursuits and practical experience. Keep setting goals for yourself and stay determined in your studies and career aspirations. Best of luck to you in your journey to success in engineering.
