The sudden appearance of a significant number of floaters, especially if they are accompanied by flashes of light in my eye for a few second.
Does anyone know what is that?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions

There are lots of things that can cause floaters, some of them severe, some not.

Most members of this site are not qualified to offer medical advice. Those who are would tell you to see a doctor.

1. What causes eye floaters?

Eye floaters are caused by tiny clumps of protein or other material inside the vitreous, the gel-like substance that fills the inside of your eye. As you age, the vitreous may shrink and pull away from the retina, causing these clumps to cast shadows on the retina and appear as floaters.

2. Are eye floaters and flashes a sign of a serious condition?

In most cases, eye floaters and flashes are not a sign of a serious condition. However, if you suddenly experience a large number of floaters and flashes accompanied by a loss of peripheral vision, it could be a sign of a retinal tear or detachment, which requires immediate medical attention.

3. Can eye floaters and flashes be treated?

In most cases, eye floaters and flashes do not require treatment. They often become less noticeable over time as the brain learns to ignore them. However, if they are significantly affecting your vision, a vitrectomy (surgical removal of the vitreous) may be recommended.

4. Can eye floaters and flashes be prevented?

There is no proven way to prevent eye floaters and flashes. However, maintaining a healthy lifestyle and protecting your eyes from injury can help reduce your risk. It is also important to have regular eye exams to monitor any changes in your eye health.

5. When should I see a doctor for eye floaters and flashes?

If you suddenly experience a large number of floaters and flashes accompanied by a loss of peripheral vision, it is important to seek immediate medical attention. Additionally, if you notice a sudden increase in the number of floaters or flashes, it is recommended to see an eye doctor for an evaluation.
