It's All Downhill From Here

I'm sure you've heard that expression before. So let's see how you interpret it pictorially. Submit a photo that best represents that phrase.

Good luck!

Contest Rules:

1. Any digital photo or digitally-scanned photo relevant to the theme will be accepted within the contest period. In case there's a gray area, or you're not sure if the picture is suitable, check with me first.

2. Please resize your digital photo to no more than 650 x 490 or 490 x 650 pixels. You may also crop your picture if you wish. You are also allowed to adjust the brightness and contrast of your picture but these should not dramatically alter the look of the picture. But other than those, any form of picture editing or modification is not allowed. This is a photo contest, not a picture editing/special effect contest. You may add a watermark or your name/nickname to the photo for identification purposes.

3. Upload your photos to any of the photo servers such as imageshack or photobucket. Then post it the relevant contest thread and link your picture using the img command. PM me if you do not know how.

4. Only ONE picture per member per contest. Once a picture is posted, it cannot be changed other than a total withdrawl by that member from that week's photo contest. Exceptions will be made for modification to comply with the rules, such as resizing.

5. At the end of the contest period, I will open a poll and every PF member can vote for the picture they like best.

6. Note that in case we have a large number of entries, I will do the polling in more than one thread. If that's the case, you can vote in each of the polling threads. The photos will be assigned in the polling threads in the order they were submitted.

7. These pictures must be something that you took, not something taken off someone else's photo albums or taken by someone else. I have no way of checking if you did this, so we'll go by the honor system.

8. You can use a picture only once. Once it is used in a contest, it cannot be reused in another contest.

9. Please post only pictures meant for submission in this thread[/QUOTE]

I waited to see what others posted until I made my choice; I'll post my runner-up (which is considerably nerdier) after the deadline.

I am aware there are some disturbing aspects to this image; FWIW, I am not standing anywhere near the children's section.

Yes, and being anywhere is downhill after hanging out in Vancouver. :)

It is, however, perhaps less disturbing than posting wedding pictures.

You have less than a day left to submit a photo for this contest. It shouldn't be difficult, because it is all downhill from here!

Feh- we get married so we have someone else to blame. :)

We risk our lives several times a day.

Those are some impressively configured stairs, Borek. Odds are pretty darned good that I'd wipe out on them at least once monthly.

Nice shot of them too.

Yeah, I can imagine Borek standing on one foot to take that pic.

In the US, we call that a ladder.

Borek, I'd be thinking about a fire pole elevator. Our old family farm house in South Dakato had a couple of sets of stairs like that.

Attic was initially adapted for Junior, now we have about 500 square feet bedroom (with sloped ceiling, so it is not as large as it may sound). Unfortunately, it is difficult to find a better place for the staircase, as long as we are not ready to waste good living space on both levels.

We thought about some handrail, but it would only make the situation worse. There is about 70 cm between the wall and the pole supporting the stairs. Handrail will have to be on the wall, it will make the pass about 10 cm more narrow, and it will make access to the wide parts of the steps more difficult than it is now; that would be not safer. It is possible to hold the treads or the supporting pole, so once you get used to it it is not as hard as it may look. But now and then guests showed around go down backwards

So far only Marzena have tried downhill ride on her back. It ended with a giant bruise, luckily nothing more.

I have even worse stairs going to my cellar from the garage (amateur job). I can't carry things in both hands when going up or down because I need at least one hand to hold on to upper treads. Not good, and no room to improve the situation unless we want to give up living space in this already-tiny house.

Technically, it's not ALL downhill. Just for 1/4 mile until you get to the brook at the lowest part of my property. Then, it's all uphill for the next 1/4 mile to get to my neighbor's property. This is an old skidder road that I let the local snowmobile club groom and maintain as a trail. It's a section of ITS 87 - a critical N-S link.

Here's my runner-up pic:

This was my first idea (the book titles will help make it clear), and by translating it into a landscape photo, I ended up with my submitted pic.
