I had a book of odd stories that had this in it. I love these old stories "the unmanly villain has succeeded in depriving seven ladies of their senses, two of whom are not likely to recover, but to become burdens to their families. "

Two thoughts:

1] It is odd that this has not been subsumed under the vampire legend. There are enough similarities.

2] I wonder if this is the true inspiration for Batman.
