A couple of choices come to mind:
- get an internship in a networking provider (AT&T, Time Warner, or your local provider of internet)
- see if you can work with the tech who manages your school's network.
- build one your self between a couple of cheap computers and a router (raspberry pi for example) and explore network management
- use networking tools to explore your internet connection (careful here network admins may not like port scans and other more invasive networking tools)
