I applied to do medicine last year but after much blood, sweat and tears I didn’t get in, something I’m sure many of you can relate to. This was my third year in a row of rejections and even though I’ve got the grades, work experience etc still no offer. After the last round of rejections I started to look at an alternative way of doing the career I’d dreamt of for so long. After looking into becoming a nurse, a physio, and loads more careers I stumbled upon a new course run by SOHANS, which is a diploma in theoretical medicine and was offered a place before Christmas and am now one month into the course and loving it. The course covers much of the normal medical syllabus but also some really interesting topics such as evolutionary medicine, evidence based medicine, world health and behavioural neuroscience. It’s distance learning so I’m working at the same time and by the time I’ve finished the course there should be some theoretical medicine jobs. So, really just wanted to let all those people who keep trying and failing to get into medicine that there are other options out there for you.
