In summary, a mystery animal was first spotted in Baltimore, Maryland and has since gained attention worldwide. New pictures of a similar creature in Texas have sparked speculation that it may be the same animal. However, animal control officers have identified the Maryland animal as a fox with sarcoptic mange, a skin parasite that causes hair loss. Despite media hype, it is likely that these sightings are just isolated cases of animals with this disease.

Maryland Mystery Animal 'Seen' All Over The World

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Since a mystery animal appeared on our sister Web site in Baltimore two weeks ago, people from around the world have looked at the pictures and sent in guesses as to what it may be.

Now, new pictures of a strange animal in Texas have some wondering if it is the same creature seen in central Maryland. [continued]

Aside from the fact that the media is hyping all of this so much, what do you think is going on? Are these just a few isolated cases, or might we have some kind of outbreak of mange, or some disease going around? I am just posting for discussion here. No connection to the media hype is intended or desired.

I should mention that the picture above is a side by side comparison of the Maryland animal, and the one shot in Texas this week from this thread:

Baby Md. Mystery Animal Caught, Identified

Animal control officers took the creature to the Falls Road Animal Hospital. They determined it was a fox with sarcoptic mange.

"It is a skin parasite that looks -- under the microscope -- like spiders," said Dr. Herko. "One of the signs of the disease is hair loss and you've seen he's lost a good portion of its hair -- a good 70 percent."

What are some examples of recent mystery animal sightings in Maryland?

Some recent mystery animal sightings in Maryland include a large black cat in Montgomery County, a mysterious creature in Harford County that resembled a hyena or wolf, and a possible mountain lion in Queen Anne's County.

Are there any reported sightings of Bigfoot in Texas?

Yes, there have been several reported sightings of Bigfoot in Texas, particularly in the Piney Woods region. In fact, there is a Bigfoot Research Center located in Jefferson, Texas that collects evidence and investigates sightings in the area.

What could be causing the increase in mystery animal sightings?

There are a few possible explanations for the increase in mystery animal sightings. One possibility is that as more people have access to cameras and social media, sightings are being reported and shared more frequently. Another possibility is that as human populations continue to expand and encroach on natural habitats, animals may be forced to move into new areas and be seen by humans more often.

Have any of these mystery animal sightings been confirmed?

Some mystery animal sightings have been confirmed, while others remain unexplained. For example, the large black cat in Montgomery County was confirmed to be a domestic cat, while the mysterious creature in Harford County was never identified. It is important to conduct thorough investigations and gather evidence before confirming any sightings.

What steps should be taken to investigate and confirm mystery animal sightings?

When investigating mystery animal sightings, it is important to gather as much evidence as possible, such as photos, videos, and physical evidence like footprints or scat. It is also helpful to consult with experts in the field, such as zoologists or wildlife biologists, to identify the animal and determine if it is a known species or a new discovery. Additionally, setting up motion-activated cameras in the area of the sighting can help capture more evidence.
