Basic astronomy

Hello,

I want to understand how black holes are formed. I don't have any idea of basic astronomy. Can anybody please guide me to a resource centre which gives the basic idea of astronomy.

Thanks and regards,

Cornell Uni's "Curious About Astronomy" website is a great way to learn about all kinds of astronomy-related subjects, including black holes:

Probably the best site for a layman. The FAQ section is especially informative.

Georgia State Uni's "Hyperphysics" provides nice mind-map approach to learning, with subjects covering most of the current physics:

Finally, wikipedia my friend, wikipedia.
