Do you guys ever watch the videos on TED.com?

They have some amazing speakers. My faves:
Ron Eglash on "African fractals", Jane Goodall on "What separates us from the apes"
and Jill Bolte Taylor, a brain scientist, describing her own experience of having a stroke.

Jacqueline Novogratz founded and leads Acumen Fund, a nonprofit that takes a businesslike approach to improving the lives of the poor. She’s become a leading voice of the new philanthropy, which emphasizes sustainable bottom-up solutions over traditional top-down aid.

1. How are speakers chosen for TED talks?

Speakers for TED talks are chosen through a rigorous process that includes nominations, recommendations, and an extensive review by a team of curators. The TED team looks for speakers who have a unique and innovative idea, a strong track record in their field, and the ability to effectively communicate their idea to a diverse audience.

2. Are all TED talks given by experts in their field?

No, not all TED talks are given by experts in their field. While many speakers are experts in their respective fields, TED also invites speakers who have experience or personal stories related to the topic they are discussing. The focus is on sharing ideas and perspectives, rather than just expertise.

3. How long are TED talks?

TED talks are limited to 18 minutes or less. This time limit was chosen to keep the talks concise and engaging for the audience. However, there are also shorter talks, known as TEDx talks, which are typically 6-12 minutes long.

4. Can anyone give a TED talk?

Anyone can apply to give a TED talk, but the selection process is highly competitive. TED looks for speakers who have a unique and innovative idea, and the ability to effectively communicate it to a diverse audience. It is also important for the speaker to have a strong track record in their field, although this is not a requirement for all talks.

5. How can I watch TED talks?

TED talks are available to watch for free on the TED website, as well as on their official YouTube channel. You can also find TED talks on various streaming platforms, such as Netflix, and many popular podcast platforms also feature TED talks. Additionally, you can attend a live TED event or a TEDx event in your local area.
