Homework Statement

Population: Patients at Toronto Hospitals(Population size-- 100,000)
Topic: Quality of Service

You are to conduct a survey on the above population to gather information upon the indicated topic. For this assignment, you must:

1.Describe a muti-stage sampling technique that will allow you to sample 500 former patients of Toronto hospitals. These patients must have spent at least one night in the hospital.

2.Create a one -page questionnaire that will be filled out by your sample group.

Notes on part 1:

Again, your random sampling technique should be a muti-stage technique. Explain the method selected at each stage,and give reasons. Assume that the hospitals will provide you with lists of patients at your request, but will not provide details of thieir illnesses.
Assume also that the former patients will cooperate with you and answer your questions willingly and honestly. Note that there are 8 hospitals in Toronto and they do not have the same number of patients.

The description of the sampling technique should be ! page in length.

In addition to describing the sampling technique in your text, you must also describe a hypothetical sampling situation in which you might accidentally introduce household bias --and how you avoided this.

Notes on Part 2:
Apart from biographical information on the individual, the questionnaire must address the topic above. It must contain a variety of question types, and must have an example of each of the folling:
* A ranking question
* A checklist question
* A rating question
* An open question that will collect quantitative data

I have experience with conducting surveys and gathering data from various populations. In order to sample 500 former patients of Toronto hospitals, I would use a multi-stage sampling technique called stratified random sampling. This technique involves dividing the population into smaller groups based on certain characteristics and then randomly selecting a sample from each group. In this case, the population is former patients of Toronto hospitals and the characteristic is having spent at least one night in the hospital.

Stage 1: Dividing the population into smaller groups based on hospital location
Since there are 8 hospitals in Toronto and they do not have the same number of patients, I would first divide the population into 8 groups based on the hospital they were admitted to. This would ensure that the sample is representative of the entire population and not just skewed towards one hospital.

Stage 2: Randomly selecting a sample from each group
Once the population is divided into smaller groups, I would use a random number generator to select a sample from each group. This would ensure that each individual in the population has an equal chance of being selected for the sample.

Stage 3: Verifying eligibility and obtaining consent
After the sample is selected, I would verify that each individual meets the criteria of being a former patient who spent at least one night in the hospital. I would also obtain consent from each individual before proceeding with the survey.

Hypothetical sampling situation with household bias:
One potential situation where household bias could be introduced is if the hospital lists provided by each hospital only include the names of the head of the household. This would result in a biased sample as it would only represent the head of the household and not all former patients who spent at least one night in the hospital. To avoid this, I would request for a list of all former patients from each hospital and randomly select individuals from that list.

Questionnaire:

1. Biographical Information:
- Name:
- Age:
- Gender:
- Occupation:
- Ethnicity:

2. Quality of Service:
Please rate your overall satisfaction with the quality of service provided by the Toronto hospitals on a scale of 1-10, with 1 being extremely dissatisfied and 10 being extremely satisfied.

3. Ranking Question:
Please rank the following aspects of quality of service from most important to least important: (1) medical care, (2) communication with staff, (3) cleanliness of facilities, (4) waiting times, (5) availability of resources.

4.

1. What is the purpose of the survey?

The purpose of the survey is to assess the quality of service provided by hospitals in Toronto. This includes measuring patient satisfaction, identifying areas for improvement, and gathering feedback to inform future decision making.

2. Who is eligible to participate in the survey?

The survey is open to anyone who has received medical treatment at a hospital in Toronto. This includes patients, family members, and caregivers.

3. How will the survey data be collected?

The survey data will be collected through online questionnaires, phone interviews, and paper surveys. Participants will be selected through a random sampling method to ensure a representative sample.

4. How will the survey results be used?

The survey results will be used to evaluate the quality of service at Toronto hospitals and identify areas for improvement. The data will also be shared with hospital administrators and healthcare professionals to inform decision making and improve patient care.

5. How can I access the survey results?

The survey results will be made available to the public through various channels, such as hospital websites, government reports, and news articles. You can also contact the organization conducting the survey to request a copy of the results.
