Gravity Probe B Results: Preliminary Info

In summary, preliminary results of the Gravity Probe B's frame dragging experiment have already been published, confirming General Relativity once again. The second half of the results, pertaining to precession, are expected to be released by the end of this year with no expected delays. However, the GPB website does not mention these published results and states that they are still in the final calibration phase and the helium is still flowing.

Does anyone have any preliminary, or otherwise, information as to the results of Gravity Probe B?

iirc, we won't have ANY results for a few years

Results of the frame dragging experiment have already been published [GR is right again!] The second half of GPB results [precession] should be out around the end of this year. I've not heard of any expected delays in releasing those results.

Where have these results been published? I don't see any mention of this on the GPB website

they say they are still in the final calibration phase and the helium is apparently still flowing.

1. What was the purpose of the Gravity Probe B mission?

The purpose of the Gravity Probe B mission was to test two predictions of Einstein's theory of general relativity: the geodetic effect and frame-dragging. These effects refer to the way that massive objects, like the Earth, can warp the fabric of space and time.

2. When and where was the Gravity Probe B mission launched?

The Gravity Probe B mission was launched on April 20, 2004 from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California.

3. How long did the Gravity Probe B mission last?

The Gravity Probe B mission lasted for 16 years, from its launch in 2004 until its conclusion in 2020.

4. What were the key findings of the Gravity Probe B mission?

The key findings of the Gravity Probe B mission include confirmation of the geodetic effect, which was accurate within 0.28%, and the first direct measurement of frame-dragging, which was accurate within 19%.

5. How do the results of the Gravity Probe B mission impact our understanding of gravity and the universe?

The results of the Gravity Probe B mission provide strong evidence for the validity of Einstein's theory of general relativity and further our understanding of how gravity works on a cosmic scale. This information can also be used to refine and improve other scientific theories, such as quantum gravity.
