In summary, when reacting 1.25 mol of TiO2 with C and 2Cl, we can determine the mass of Cl2 to be 106.359 g, the mass of C to be 15.01 g, and the mass of TiCl4 to be 237.1 g.

Hi my question is
TiO2 + C + 2Cl = TiCl4 + CO2
If you have 1.25 mol TiO2. Answer this question:
1- The mas of Cl2
(1.25 mol TiO2) ((2 mol Cl2)/(1 mol Tio)) = 3 mol Cl2
(3 mol Cl2)((35.453 g Cl2)/(1 mol Cl2)) = 106.359 g Cl2

2- The mas of C
(1.25 mol TiO2) ((1 mol C)/(1 mol Tio)) = 1.25 mol C
(1.25 mol C)((12.011 g C)/(1 mol C)) = 15.01 g C

3- The mas of TiCl4
(1.25 mol TiO2) ((1 mol TiCl4)/(1 mol Tio)) = 1.25 mol TiCl4
(1.25 mol TiCl4 ) ((189.679 g TiCl4)/(1 mol TiCl4)) = 237.1 g TiCl4

Looks good except for this; "two x one and one quarter equals three?"

1. What is the chemical equation for "TiO2 + C + 2Cl = TiCl4 + CO2"?

The chemical equation for "TiO2 + C + 2Cl = TiCl4 + CO2" is a representation of a chemical reaction between titanium dioxide (TiO2), carbon (C), and chlorine (Cl) to form titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

2. What type of reaction is "TiO2 + C + 2Cl = TiCl4 + CO2"?

"TiO2 + C + 2Cl = TiCl4 + CO2" is a redox (oxidation-reduction) reaction. This means that there is a transfer of electrons between the reactants, resulting in a change in oxidation states.

3. What are the products of "TiO2 + C + 2Cl = TiCl4 + CO2"?

The products of "TiO2 + C + 2Cl = TiCl4 + CO2" are titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) and carbon dioxide (CO2).

4. What is the role of each reactant in "TiO2 + C + 2Cl = TiCl4 + CO2"?

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) and carbon (C) are the reactants that undergo a chemical reaction to form titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) and carbon dioxide (CO2). Chlorine (Cl) is the oxidizing agent in this reaction, meaning it accepts electrons from other substances and becomes reduced.

5. What are the industrial applications of "TiO2 + C + 2Cl = TiCl4 + CO2"?

"TiO2 + C + 2Cl = TiCl4 + CO2" has several industrial applications, including the production of titanium metal, as well as in the manufacture of pigments, plastics, and rubber. Titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) is also used in the production of smoke screens and as a catalyst in the production of polypropylene and polyethylene plastics.
