In summary, there have been many strange and fascinating incidents on New York City subways, such as a man bringing a live shark onto a subway car and a secret subway line that is rumored to be haunted. The city also has several abandoned subway stations, including the famous City Hall Station, which is now used for special tours and film shoots. Rats are a common sight in the subways due to the abundance of food and ideal living conditions, and there have been numerous reports of supernatural sightings, although they are most likely just urban legends.

I've always noticed something strange about new york city subways. When they start to slow down, you feel a force pushing you forward, which seems fine. However, the subway car actually stops, you feel a jerk backward at that moment. Is there an explanation for this?

The concept is, in fact, called "jerk": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerk_(physics )

Since you are leaning backwards you just about fall over since the rate of change of acceleration is faster than you can react to.
