Homework Statement

Compress air vessel has a volume of 10 ft3 .Cooling coils holds its temperature at 68F. The pressure now in the vessel is 100 psi. Air is flowing in at the rate of 10 lbm/hr.How fast is the pressure increasing?

The Attempt at a Solution

What I have done is that I have converted mass flow rate into molar flow rate and by using ideal gas equation i found the pressure which has the unit of psi/hr...

So what did you get? Please show the steps you took.

1. What is the purpose of a compress air vessel?

The purpose of a compress air vessel is to store compressed air at high pressures. This compressed air can then be used for a variety of applications, such as powering pneumatic tools or equipment.

2. How does the volume of the air vessel affect its performance?

The volume of the air vessel directly affects its performance by determining how much compressed air it can hold. A larger volume vessel can hold more compressed air and therefore can supply more power for longer periods of time.

3. What is the role of the cooling coils in the air vessel?

The cooling coils in the air vessel play a crucial role in maintaining a safe and efficient operating temperature. As the compressed air is stored in the vessel, it heats up and the cooling coils help to dissipate this heat, preventing damage to the vessel and ensuring its longevity.

4. Can the volume of the air vessel be adjusted?

Yes, the volume of the air vessel can be adjusted by adding or removing compressed air. This can be done through a variety of methods, such as using a compressor or a pressure relief valve.

5. Are there any safety precautions to consider when using a compress air vessel?

Yes, there are several safety precautions to consider when using a compress air vessel. These include ensuring proper ventilation to prevent the buildup of potentially hazardous gases, regularly inspecting the vessel for any signs of damage or wear, and following proper procedures for filling and releasing compressed air.
