Laser Doppler Anemometry and Impinging Air Jet

Lempert, and Kompenhans. In summary, the conversation discussed the topic of conducting a literature review on Laser Doppler Anemometry and Impinging Air Jet. The speaker asked for recommendations on books, sites, journals, and online articles related to comparing real velocity data obtained from LDA to CFD data for a project. The other person suggested the journal Experiments in Fluids and the book Springer Handbook of Experimental Fluid Mechanics, as well as "Laser Doppler and Phase Doppler Measurement Techniques" by Albrecht, Lempert, and Kompenhans. The book was suggested to be available for purchase on the Amazon Marketplace for a lower price.

Hello,

I have to conduct a literature review in regards to Laser Doppler Anemometry and Impinging Air Jet. I am doing a project and it is to compare real velocity data obtained from LDA to CFD data and was wondering if anyone had any good books they could recommend for me to read or good sites, journals, online articles?

Many Thanks

The best journal for this would probably be Experiments in Fluids. If your school subscribes to the Springer journals, that would be really easy to obtain. Also, if they have that subscription, you could look up the Springer Handbook of Experimental Fluid Mechanics, which has a large section devoted to LDA and a whole list of references you can follow from there. That book is normally like $300 but you can find it on the Amazon Marketplace for about $70 if you actually want to purchase it.

See if your library has the book "Laser Doppler and Phase Doppler Measurement Techniques" by Albrecht

What is Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA)?

Laser Doppler Anemometry is an experimental technique used to measure the velocity and direction of fluid flow. It utilizes the Doppler effect to measure the frequency shift of laser light scattered by particles in the fluid, and this information is used to calculate the velocity of the fluid.

How does LDA work?

LDA works by using a laser beam to illuminate particles in the fluid, and then detecting the Doppler-shifted light scattered by these particles. This information is then processed to determine the velocity of the fluid flow at a specific point.

What are the advantages of using LDA?

LDA offers high spatial and temporal resolution, making it useful for studying turbulent flows and capturing detailed velocity profiles. It also has a non-intrusive nature, meaning it does not disrupt the flow being measured.

What is an impinging air jet?

An impinging air jet is a flow of air that is directed at a solid surface, creating a jet of air that impinges on the surface. This type of flow is commonly used in various engineering applications, such as cooling or drying processes.

How is LDA used to study impinging air jets?

LDA can be used to study impinging air jets by measuring the velocity and direction of the jet as it impinges on the surface. This can provide valuable information about the flow behavior and its impact on the surface, helping to optimize the design of the jet for specific applications.
