In summary, STAIF-2006 is a highly anticipated conference for those interested in high energy and revolutionary physics propulsion ideas. The final program book is available on their website and includes a lineup of exciting plenary speakers. There will also be a special session on Nuclear Power and Exploration, as well as a golf outing for interested attendees. The conference has evolved over the years and is now considered one of the major conferences in the field, alongside the Space Nuclear Conference and the Joint Propulsion Conference.

It costs $500 just to attend, but it seems to be the only conference for high energy/ revolutionary / physics propulsion ideas. Has anyone gone or know anyone who has?

I presented some work at one of the earliest conferences, Space Nuclear Power Symposium in 1986. I was coauthor on a subsequent paper.

STAIF has evolved into several conferences in one. It does seem to be a major conference.

The other major conferences are Space Nuclear Conference (ANS - http://www3.inspi.ufl.edu/space/ ) and Joint Propulsion Conference (AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE - http://www.aiaa.org/content.cfm?pageid=230&lumeetingid=1178 ).
