In summary, the person is looking for the easiest way to copy the entire harddrive image from their IBM Thinkpad T40 to another IBM Thinkpad R52. They mention that a simple backup/restore will not work due to dissimilar hardware. They have come across some products that can do this and suggest looking for "Parted" or its variations, which can be found in Linux livecds like Knoppix. However, the person is not familiar with Linux and may not be able to use it for the backup/restore.

I browsed through the links that you have given. I don't think i can perform a backup/restore with linux for I have never used that style OS or programming. Thank you though.

What is "Restore Image from T40 to R52"?

"Restore Image from T40 to R52" is a process of transferring all data and settings from a T40 computer to an R52 computer, essentially creating an exact copy of the T40 on the R52.

Why would someone want to restore an image from T40 to R52?

Restoring an image from T40 to R52 is useful when you want to transfer all your data and settings from an old computer to a new one without having to manually install everything again.

Is it possible to restore an image from T40 to R52 if the two computers have different operating systems?

No, it is not possible to restore an image from T40 to R52 if the two computers have different operating systems. The process requires both computers to have the same operating system for a successful transfer.

What is the difference between restoring an image and cloning a hard drive?

Restoring an image involves transferring all data and settings from one computer to another, creating an exact copy. Cloning a hard drive involves creating an exact copy of the entire hard drive, including the operating system, onto another hard drive.

Is it necessary to have the same hardware for the image restore to work?

No, it is not necessary to have the same hardware for the image restore to work. However, it is recommended to have similar hardware to ensure a seamless transfer of data and settings.
