Confirmation of any water on the moon?

In summary, scientists have confirmed that there is water on the moon, although it is not in the form of large bodies of liquid like on Earth. The water was discovered in 2009 by NASA's LCROSS mission and is estimated to be around 600 million metric tons, mostly in the form of ice. The source of the water is still being debated, with some believing it was delivered by comets or asteroids and others thinking it was created by chemical reactions on the surface. While the potential of using this water for future human missions is promising, more research is needed to understand its distribution and accessibility.

How to effectively get into a polar orbit and land near (in) a S. polar crater and look for sublimated water (i.e. hydrogen). So coast to the Lagrangian pt between Earth and moon; then accelerate into a polar orbit. Land a rover in Mars-like manner. Use a laser, at a distance, to sublimate any water ice in crater wall. Then take a spectrum of any such sublimated water (i.e. hydrogen).

Can you brief that out?Sounds interesting!

1. Is there water on the moon?

The short answer is yes, scientists have confirmed that there is water on the moon. However, it is not in the form of large bodies of liquid water like we have on Earth. Instead, it exists as ice in the polar regions and in small amounts scattered across the surface.

2. How was water discovered on the moon?

Water was first discovered on the moon in 2009 by NASA's Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite (LCROSS) mission. This mission intentionally crashed a rocket into a permanently shadowed crater near the moon's south pole, creating a plume of debris. Analysis of this debris showed the presence of water molecules.

3. How much water is on the moon?

Scientists estimate that there may be as much as 600 million metric tons of water on the moon, mostly in the form of ice. This may not seem like a lot, but it could potentially be used for future human exploration and even to create rocket fuel.

4. What is the source of the moon's water?

The origin of the moon's water is still a topic of ongoing research and debate. Some scientists believe that it could have been delivered by comets or asteroids, while others think it may have been created by chemical reactions on the lunar surface.

5. Can we use the water on the moon?

While the presence of water on the moon is exciting, it is not yet clear how easily accessible or usable it is for future human missions. More research is needed to understand the distribution and form of the water, as well as the potential methods for extracting and using it. However, it is an important resource to consider for future exploration and potentially establishing a permanent human presence on the moon.
