In summary: Might be more busy in November/December.In summary, gravenewworld had a great trip to Thailand where he visited different regions such as Northern Thailand, Western/Central Thailand, Sukhothai, and Bangkok. He enjoyed the food, particularly the use of spices and the abundance of fresh fruits. He also mentioned that Thai cuisine is less fattening compared to Western food. He booked his trip through a travel agency and stayed with family in Bangkok, while renting a van and staying in hotels in other areas. Overall, he highly recommends visiting Thailand for its culture and food.

Wow, food looks great.

Seems like a nice trip of a different culture.

I remember having some trouble getting used to the smell inside the restaurants. How did that go for you?

Looks as if it was a spectacular trip, gravenewworld.

I just adore food pictures. I don't know why, but they fascinate me.

I actually loved the smell inside of the restaurants. They smelled incredibly good. When you go to the street vendors, it may be a different story. I think most of the bad smell comes from the stagnant water that is all over the street. However, even the vendors sell really really good food. Bangkok is a great city, however, there is no need to spend more than 2 or 3 days there. Go up North. I liked Chiang Mai much much better. It is way cleaner than Bangkok (none of that nasty stagnant water smell) and much more scenic. If you guys ever decided to go to Thailand the food will definitely be one of the highlights of your trip. Thai people know how to eat, and they eat extremely well. It is no wonder why obesity is less of a problem there compared to the western world. They hardly eat any cheese or dairy products and a lot of their meals are low in fat. Rather than using animal fats to make things taste good they use an incredible arsenal of different spices. Their desserts are also not extremely heavy (like cheesecake or a canoli) and are mostly derived from fruits or vegetables. When Thai people snack, they simply eat a lot of amazing tasting tropical fruits, not stuff like chips or other highly refined processed foods like we eat in the western world. I'm telling you, if you have an international grocery store near where you live see if they carry rambutan or mangosteen. They are probably some of the best fruit I have ever tasted in my life.

IMO Thai cuisine edges out Italian food for the best type of food overall simply because there seems to be so much more variety and Thais combine many different tastes like sweet, sour, salty, and spicy very well into a dish. The food is also much less fattening.

Thai food is definitely one of my favorites. How did you book your trip?

It looks like a beautiful country, and lots of interesting fruits (some of those look familiar from Zz's pictures of the fruits at the market in Malaysia...they must be popular fruits in the whole region). Thanks for sharing so many photos.

My dad did it (went with dad and brother). He went to some travel agency in Washington DC that specializes in booking trips to Thailand. Most of the time we stayed at my cousin's house in Bangkok, so we didn't need to book hotels there. Up North all we did was rent a van with a driver who knew where he was going (about $60 per day) and just went to hotels. Plenty of rooms were available in every town/city we went to, no reservation was needed. Usually the busiest time of year for tourism is during the winter since it is not hot or rainy season in Thailand.

What places did you visit in Thailand?

I visited Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Phuket, and Krabi during my summer vacation.

What activities did you do in Thailand?

I went to the famous temples, explored the street markets, hiked in the national parks, and relaxed on the beautiful beaches.

What was your favorite part of the trip?

My favorite part was visiting the Elephant Nature Park in Chiang Mai, where I got to interact with rescued elephants and learn about their conservation efforts.

Did you try any traditional Thai food?

Yes, I tried many traditional dishes such as Pad Thai, Tom Yum soup, and Mango Sticky Rice. They were all delicious!

What was the most memorable experience during your vacation?

The most memorable experience was watching the sunset at Railay Beach in Krabi. The view was breathtaking and I will never forget it.
