In summary, hard braking is applying enough pressure to the brake pedal for a quick and controlled stop, while too hard braking is applying excessive pressure that can result in loss of control. Factors such as vehicle weight and speed, road conditions, and brake and tire condition can affect the difference between the two. To improve braking technique, one can practice and maintain their vehicle's brakes and tires. For safety, it is important to maintain a safe distance, anticipate stops, and avoid sudden or excessive braking, as well as being aware of road conditions.

can someone explain to me the difference btw
(a) apply the brakes just hard enough

and

(b) brakes are applied too hard??

Apply the brakes too hard and the tires will slip on the road; apply them just right, and they won't slip. The only force stopping the car is the friction of the road on the tires: you want the friction to be as great as possible. If the tires slip you have kinetic friction, which is weaker than static friction.

thank you doc al.

What is the difference between hard and too hard braking?

Hard braking refers to applying enough pressure to the brake pedal to slow down or stop a vehicle quickly. Too hard braking, on the other hand, refers to applying excessive pressure to the brake pedal, which can lead to the wheels locking up and losing control of the vehicle.

Why is hard braking better than too hard braking?

Hard braking allows for a quick and controlled stop, while too hard braking can cause the wheels to lock up and result in loss of control. Hard braking also puts less strain on the vehicle's brakes and tires, prolonging their lifespan.

What factors can affect the difference between hard and too hard braking?

The weight and speed of the vehicle, road conditions, and the condition of the brakes and tires can all affect the difference between hard and too hard braking. It is important to adjust braking accordingly in different driving situations.

How can I improve my braking technique?

To improve your braking technique, you can practice in a safe and controlled environment to get a feel for how hard you need to press on the brake pedal for different scenarios. It is also important to maintain your vehicle's brakes and tires to ensure they are in good condition.

Are there any safety tips for braking?

Some safety tips for braking include always maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle in front of you, anticipating stops and applying pressure to the brake pedal gradually, and avoiding braking suddenly or excessively. It is also important to be aware of road conditions and adjust braking accordingly.
