Chemistry Textbook for College: 1st Year Student Exam Prep

In summary, the conversation is about the speaker's need for a good chemistry textbook to study for a placement exam. A recommendation is given for Brady's book and the Palgrave foundation book by Rob Lewis and Wynne Evans is suggested as it covers all branches of chemistry and is specifically aimed at first-year college students. The conversation ends with the speaker thanking Espen and Studiot for their suggestions.

I see that there is another thread on this, but I do not know if my needs are the same and I did not want to hijack the thread...hence creating another...

I need to take a chemistry placement exam and wanted to study before I take it. I'm in my first year of college. Any recommendations on a good chemistry I college level textbook?

I understand the importance of using reliable and comprehensive resources when studying for exams. For a first-year college student preparing for a chemistry placement exam, I would recommend using a textbook that covers the fundamental concepts of chemistry in a clear and organized manner.

One textbook that I would recommend is "Chemistry: The Central Science" by Brown, LeMay, Bursten, Murphy, and Woodward. This textbook is widely used in college-level chemistry courses and provides a solid foundation in chemistry concepts. It also includes practice problems and review questions to help students prepare for exams.

Another option is "General Chemistry" by Ebbing and Gammon. This textbook also covers the core principles of chemistry and includes helpful features such as key terms, chapter summaries, and practice exercises.

It is important to choose a textbook that aligns with your course syllabus and covers the topics that will be tested on your placement exam. Additionally, I would suggest supplementing your textbook with other study materials such as online resources, practice quizzes, and study guides.

Remember to also utilize your professor or a tutor for any additional help or clarification on topics that you may struggle with. With thorough preparation and the right resources, I am confident you will do well on your chemistry placement exam. Good luck!
