A lot of people like Binder's book but personally I like Barkema and Newman (I assume you're interested in monte carlo in physics).

I would suggest looking for a text that is reputable and well-researched in the subject you are interested in. It is important to choose a text that has been peer-reviewed and published in a reputable journal or by a credible source. Additionally, consider the author's credentials and expertise in the subject matter. It may also be helpful to consult with colleagues or experts in the field for recommendations on a good first text. Ultimately, the best first text for you will depend on your specific research interests and goals, so it is important to carefully evaluate and select a text that aligns with your needs.
