Farm water filtration and purification systems

In summary, the author has two rural water systems and is looking for information on a pump, filters, and tanks. The author recognizes the brand of the chlorine pump in the photo, which is a Stenner brand pump. The author is using a Stenner brand pump, and the black tank in the photo is the chlorine tank. The author also remembers that the only brand that had what he wanted was the Water Soft brand.

I'd like to see this topic that came up on Random Thoughts expanded.

I have two rural water systems, both of which need some help. Any photos, brand names of pumps and filters, specs, would be greatly appreciated.

I forgot to check the brands but I recognize the brand online. This is the chlorine pump we are now using - a Stenner brand pump. The one in the photo was another brand.

The original pump only lasted about five years. I'm told this brand should last longer. It uses rollers and tubes [peristaltic pump], as opposed to a diaphragm like the old one had. It is also self-priming. which is nice.

The black tank in the photo is the chlorine tank. I think it is 30 gallons. No sense undersizing the bleach tank as it just means more trips to the pump house. In our system, any chlorine that doesn't react in the main tank is removed by the carbon filter [the second treatment tank]. Most of the chloride precipates go to the bottom of the main tank and get flushed each day, but the clarifier, the first treatment tank on the right, removes any remaining precipitates.

Thanks!
How about your filters?

I was in the well house today and remembered that you had asked about this.

The filters are the brand name Water Soft. The tanks are made by Amtrol and Well Mate.

I can't remember what drove this anymore, but this was the only brand that had something I wanted... I remember that they had to be special ordered.

It may have been the only brand that offered all three types of filters with all of the desired function.

Thanks! Appreciate the info

1. What are the benefits of using farm water filtration and purification systems?

Farm water filtration and purification systems can provide numerous benefits, including:

  • Improving the quality of water for drinking, irrigation, and livestock use
  • Reducing the risk of waterborne diseases in both humans and animals
  • Increasing crop yield and quality through better water quality
  • Protecting equipment and infrastructure from mineral buildup and corrosion
  • Promoting sustainability by reducing the need for chemical treatments

2. What types of contaminants can be removed by farm water filtration and purification systems?

Farm water filtration and purification systems are designed to remove a wide range of contaminants, including:

  • Sediment and debris
  • Bacteria and viruses
  • Chemicals and pesticides
  • Heavy metals
  • Minerals and salts
  • Organic compounds

3. How do farm water filtration and purification systems work?

Most farm water filtration and purification systems use a combination of physical and chemical processes to remove contaminants from water. This can include:

  • Screens and filters to remove larger particles
  • Chemical treatments such as chlorination or ozonation to kill bacteria and viruses
  • Ion exchange to remove minerals and heavy metals
  • Reverse osmosis to remove dissolved solids
  • Activated carbon to remove organic compounds and improve taste and odor

4. How do I choose the right farm water filtration and purification system for my needs?

The best system for your farm will depend on several factors, including your water source, the level of contamination present, and your budget. It is important to conduct water testing to determine the specific contaminants in your water and then consult with a water treatment specialist to determine the most suitable system for your needs.

5. How often do farm water filtration and purification systems need to be maintained?

Regular maintenance is important to keep your farm water filtration and purification system functioning effectively. This can include replacing filters, cleaning and sanitizing components, and monitoring water quality. The frequency of maintenance will depend on the type of system, the level of water usage, and the quality of the source water.
