Belt Drive Pulley: Mean Diameter 300mm, Angle 180°, 920 RPM

In summary, the given information includes a belt drive pulley with a mean diameter of 300mm and an angle of contact of 180°, rotating at 920 rpm. The smaller belt tension is 50 N and the coefficient of friction is 0.3, neglecting centrifugal effects. The attempted solution uses the equation V=piND to calculate a value of 14.45 m/s, but further information is needed to determine the forces involved.

Homework Statement

A belt drive pulley has a mean diameter of 300mm, an angle of contact of 180° and rotates at 920 rpm. Smaller belt tension is 50 N and coefficient of friction is 0.3 Neglect centrifugal

Homework Equations

V=piND

The Attempt at a Solution

pi*(920/60)*0.3=14.45 ms

after that in sort of lost because question doesn't give F1 or F2

please help thanks

What is the purpose of a belt drive pulley?

A belt drive pulley is used to transfer power from one rotating shaft to another through a belt. It allows for the transmission of energy over long distances and can also change the speed or direction of rotation.

What is the mean diameter of a belt drive pulley?

The mean diameter of a belt drive pulley is the average diameter of the pulley, taking into account any variations in diameter along the surface of the pulley. It is typically measured in millimeters or inches.

What is the significance of an angle of 180 degrees in a belt drive pulley?

An angle of 180 degrees in a belt drive pulley indicates that the pulley is a half-circle, with the belt wrapping around the entire circumference of the pulley. This allows for maximum contact between the belt and the pulley, providing efficient power transfer.

What is the relationship between the RPM and the speed of a belt drive pulley?

The RPM (revolutions per minute) of a belt drive pulley is directly related to its speed. A higher RPM means a faster speed, while a lower RPM means a slower speed. The RPM is also affected by the size of the pulley and the size of the belt.

What factors should be considered when choosing a belt drive pulley?

When choosing a belt drive pulley, factors such as the size, material, and design of the pulley should be considered. The speed and power requirements of the application, as well as the type of belt being used, should also be taken into account. It is important to select a pulley that is compatible with the other components in the system for optimal performance.
