Is Nose Surgery the Solution to Insecurity About Facial Appearance?

  • Thread starter Lisa!

In summary: LOL, no. The only thing that changes about a person's face after they've had surgery is that their nose is smaller and their eyebrows might be a little bit darker. Most people who have surgery don't have a problem with their breathing. I think the only real reason to have surgery is if you have a really big or crooked nose. Otherwise, you're just going to look ridiculous.I don't see the point to it all.

Don't laugh at me but you that's true! I never had such a problem but recently I'm getting so sensitive about it. I mean nose is the 1st thing that I notice in people's faces and my own face. It seems ok to me sometimes and others assure me that really is but sometimes I think it's so terrible and has ruined all my beauty. Whenever someone stares at me I think s/he is looking at my nose. I guess that's because most of girls around me(esp. in big cities) have done operation on their noses. Wow! should I do the same? I'm afraid that might cause some troubles for me.

Unless you have a problem like breathing difficulties, there's no reason to have surgery on your nose. And, yes, sometimes cosmetic surgery goes wrong and makes things worse than you started off. I don't see the point to it all.

If you're not secure with yourself, lopping your nose off and replacing it with silly putty isn't going to solve that.

And, yes, when people look at you, they probably ARE looking at your nose...it is right in the middle of your face afterall, and some people just hate making eye contact. That doesn't mean something is wrong with your nose though, just means it's right there, and more comfortable than looking you in the eyes, and less suggestive than staring at your lips. :tongue2:

Lisa, you're beautiful. Don't change your nose. If you've never noticed a problem with it except recently then it's most likely fine. Also, if you do get an operation, who would it be for? People who care how your nose looks? I don't think they're worth you changing your nose.

When I was in my teens I started thinking my nose was too big. A few years later I realized that it is actually quite small. I think almost every girl goes through a nose hating stage.

Post a pic in the Member photo thread, and let us be the judges of that.

No, you shouldn't do the same.

The girls who undergo such operations are stupid. 99 % of them have normal noses.

Btw, if you ever find a guy who'll complain about your nose, dump him. Trust me.

And as a guy, I can tell you that I personally don't mind a bigger nose. You'll laugh, but there are girls who look just fine with it. There are no general rules for beauty.

Surgery should never happen unless someone has had an accident or was born seriously deformed. I'm sure your nose is perfect. Personally I really wouldn't want to go out with any woman that was vane enough to have had work done. It doesn't speak very highly of them in my opinion. I'd much rather go for your untouched nosey

Your nose question has been conclusively answered. Now let's focus on your elbows...

I think people are free to choose if they want surgery.

She is very beautiful, but that is not a large nose.

I think large (like tall) is relative.

I'd have to agree with astro. It doesn't seem that large to me but perhaps hollywood might think its large.

Just be happy that you ladies don't have to worry about continuously growing nose and ears.

My mom's friend has a really beautiful and small nose but it doesn't look great onher face, I mean if it was bigger that would have made her more beautful! As for myself I think my nose looks ok on my face and luckily noone's let me down because of my nosesince there have been better reasons to do so!
I always believed that if there's something wrong with our appearances, it's mostly others' problems not ours since we don't have to stand it as much as others do. But recently...

Hollywood standards are sick.

Btw, my mom likes a large nose on a man.

And mentors, approve Lisa's attachment so we can finally see the nose!

That's a nice, petite nose. Nothing wrong with it other than that it's not attached to a face.

Seriously, you can't just look at a single body part and go comparing it to other people. You have to look at the whole picture, and then you'll see that we're usually put together just right. I don't understand the obsession with everyone wanting to look the same as the ditzes in Hollywood anyway.

Lisa, you have a great nose! I don't know what you are complaining about.

You guys TOTALLY missed my point. :grumpy:
The fact that Isabella's nose is atypical makes her even more beautiful. If she changed her nose, she would look like all the other actresses.

Lisa!, that is not a big nose. I had to zoom into see it.

Actually it's a beautiful nose. I think mine is twice or thrice that size.

I can't see that Isabella's nose is large or atypical. BTW, I think she has great eyes, great lips, great chin . . . overall a great face (and a very sultry look). But heck, I'm just a guy, and an old one at that

And . . . I think the PF sisters all have wonderful noses. Seriously.

Lisa, as the others said, you have a very nice nose, and don't let us hear any of this "big nose" nonsence again!

You don't? I do. But she's one of the reasons I never got my nose done. I think her nose is beautiful and unique.

yes, I think she's stunning!

My nose makes my face look like a sundial! ha ha

oh, and Ivan has the perfect little Hollywood nose.

What? You're Persian aren't you? There's no such thing as a Persian woman who isn't beautiful. You're beautiful, Lisa.

Still, I'm curious what you look like.

PM me with your MySpace url.

Haha I wish my nose was bigger... I still have one of those lil button noses that only 5 year old kids have hahaha consider yourself lucky to have grown yourself a proper nose

I used to have a problem with mine when I was young too. After awhile I forgot about it when I got involved in things I liked to do that were more important than what I looked like. One of the things I have had to be wary of are http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transference" [Broken] from others who might find my nose, height, etc objectionable or less than perfect. While I might be totally accepting of myself there are those who can make you feel as if you don't feel good about yourself and you often cannot avoid those people. Not knowing that cost me a lot of unnecessary pain and suffering over a lot of years.

Rosselini's beauty came from genetics and luck, that is the right genes came together at the right time. One also has to be aware of transferences from those who do not like their own looks and tend to project that onto others. What I think and believe about myself will determine how I look and feel about myself. I love myself inspite of all of my imperfections.

I disagree with your judgement, but know how you feel; I hate my nose as well. Although once or twice women have specifically said that they like my nose. My point is that you're perception of your appearance is impossible to reconcile with other people's perception of yourself. Even after said compliments I still hate my nose, I however will not be posting a picture of it.

From what I can tell, yours is fine looking nose (I can't say the same for your grammar, things get "on my nerves" not things get me on my nerves. I suggest you see a specialist)

Another option would be to post in german - Lisa, do you come from the same country as me ? (hey don't worry about your grammar, obviously everybody understood exactly what you said)

kfg: So the first thing after you registered here was to resurrect this thread from the dead - you have to be really interested either in Lisa, noses, or in Miss Rosselini !
(don't want to criticize you, just makes me curious...)

I had no idea the thread was inactive and actually my old childhood problem is what was resurrected. I liked it even less after my father broke it when I was 18. I wanted my nose to look like my father's believe it or not, (yea, yea I know all about p---- envy and the feminine power struggle, freudian manudo), but I think sometimes psychologists don't go far enough. I actually think I was possessed by someone elses problem, transferences or projections or projective identification or some dissociative problem, a male or maybe even my brother, I am the oldest. In recent years I am becoming more clear about it after having been knocked unconscious by it for 45 years- "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get", and someone else surely does. It's that changling thing you know. I don't look the same from one month to the next. I wonder if Hollywood created that or if it really exists.

It is interesting that with all of Hollywoods standards that Rosselini would choose to do a movie like Blue Velvet which I have seen. She is of course a very beautiful woman like her mother whose movies I have seen many times. It takes a lot of time to cultivate that kind of beauty. And in the end "beauty is in the eye of the beholder".

As for grammar, it depends on how you read what was said. I think she was very clear.

I really posted because I thought I might have something to add to the discussion. I don't obessess about my looks anymore, it is my brain that has my attention at the moment and this should have been the case when I was much younger. Duped by media.

1. Why does my nose always bother me?

There could be various reasons for this, including allergies, sinus infections, or even a deviated septum. It is best to consult a doctor for a proper diagnosis and treatment.

2. How can I stop my nose from constantly itching or running?

This could be a result of allergies or a cold. Over-the-counter medications, such as antihistamines or decongestants, can help alleviate these symptoms. If they persist, consult a doctor for further treatment options.

3. Why does my nose get congested when I lay down?

This is a common occurrence and can be caused by various factors, including allergies, sinus infections, or even a deviated septum. Elevating your head while sleeping or using nasal strips can help alleviate congestion. Consult a doctor if the issue persists.

4. Can my nose problems be hereditary?

Yes, certain nose-related issues such as allergies or a deviated septum can be hereditary. If you have a family history of these issues, it is important to inform your doctor.

5. What can I do to improve the appearance of my nose?

If you are unhappy with the appearance of your nose, there are various options available, such as rhinoplasty or non-surgical procedures like fillers. It is important to consult a qualified plastic surgeon for a proper evaluation and discussion of your options.
