Acid group displacements

Hi all,

I want to make formamidinium iodide (HN=CHNH3+I-). I can buy formamidinium acetate (HN=CH3NH2.COOH). Can I mix this with HI to form formamidinium iodide and acetic acid, upon crystallisation?

ie.
HN=CH3NH2.CH3OOH + HI -> HN=CHNH3+I- + CH3COOH

Thanks!
