In summary, the conversation suggests several sources for online upper division math courses, including MIT's OpenCourseWare and Berkeley's Math Course Archive. Other resources such as authoritative expository websites and using Wikipedia for keyword searches are also mentioned. It is advised to avoid unreliable sources when conducting research.

There's always http://ocw.mit.edu/OcwWeb/Mathematics/index.htm, another page I check every now and then is the Berkeley's Math Course Archive.

Hope that helps.

This isn't quite what you asked for, but you should also bookmark websites which offer authoritative expository posts/articles, such as

http://gowers.wordpress.com/
http://terrytao.wordpress.com/
http://www.scholarpedia.org/article/Encyclopedia_of_Dynamical_Systems

But you should avoid Wikipedia and other sometimes less than reliable sources. (I advocate using Wikipedia to get some keywords you can try using in a literature search at your local research library, however.)

1. What are the benefits of taking an online math course at the university level?

Online math courses at the university level offer a flexible and convenient option for students who may have busy schedules or live far from a university campus. These courses also often provide interactive learning materials and the ability to work at your own pace, making them a great option for students who prefer self-directed learning. Additionally, online courses can be more cost-effective than traditional in-person courses, as they often have lower tuition fees and eliminate the need for commuting or on-campus housing expenses.

2. How do online math courses at the university level differ from traditional in-person courses?

Online math courses at the university level typically have the same curriculum and learning outcomes as their in-person counterparts. However, the mode of delivery differs, as online courses rely on virtual platforms and technology for instruction and communication. This means that students may need to have access to a computer and reliable internet connection in order to participate in online math courses. Additionally, online courses may have more frequent assessments and require students to have strong time management skills in order to succeed.

3. Are online math courses at the university level as rigorous as in-person courses?

Online math courses at the university level are designed to be just as rigorous as in-person courses. They often have the same course content and learning objectives, and are taught by experienced and qualified instructors. However, the mode of delivery may require students to have strong self-motivation and discipline in order to keep up with course materials and deadlines. It is important for students to actively participate in online discussions and seek help from instructors if needed in order to succeed in these courses.

4. Can I receive the same level of support and resources in an online math course as I would in an in-person course?

Many universities offer the same level of support and resources for online math courses as they do for in-person courses. This includes access to academic advisors, tutoring services, and online libraries. Instructors are also available to answer questions and provide feedback on assignments and exams. It is important for students to familiarize themselves with the resources available to them and to utilize them as needed in order to succeed in their online math courses.

5. Are online math courses at the university level transferable to other universities or recognized by employers?

In most cases, online math courses at the university level are transferable to other universities, as long as they are accredited by the appropriate governing bodies. It is important for students to check with the receiving university to ensure that the credits will be accepted. As for recognition by employers, online courses are becoming more widely accepted and respected in the workforce, as they demonstrate a student's ability to effectively manage their time and learn independently. However, it is always a good idea to highlight the skills and knowledge gained from online courses on a resume or in an interview to showcase their value to potential employers.
