Find Out Which Switch Turns On Light Bulb Brain Teaser

In summary: If the bulb is off and cold, then it's the first switch. If the bulb is on, but not warm, then it's the second switch. If the bulb is on and warm, then it's the third switch.

This is a pretty easy problem, there is a room that is enclosed and all of the walls are opaque, there is no way to know what is going on inside from the outside (you are on the outside). There are three switches outside in which one of them has a circuit that flows to the light bulb. You can only go in one time to check which switch turns on the light bulb, how do you find out which switch is the one that turns on the light bulb?

Has anyone made an attempt?

As far as i recall the person outside must flick a switch. Then wait a bit. Then he/she goes in. If the bulb is off and cold the switch flicked before entering is a dud. If the bulb is on, well its obvious. Something like that anyway.

This question is very old.
You will switch on 1 bulb and wait, then after some time switch it off and switch on another bulb and go in. There will be one bulb glowing, one hot, and one cold and not glowing

There are three bulbs in your solution while there is just one in the initial problem...

Well, there are other methods than feeling the bulb to see if it is warm: leave one switch alone, put one switch on, and put one switch just in the middle.
If the bulb is off, then it's the first switch. If the bulb is on, then it's the second switch. If the bulb is flickering, then it's the last switch.

1. How does the "Find Out Which Switch Turns On Light Bulb" brain teaser work?

The brain teaser works by presenting a scenario where there are three switches, only one of which controls a light bulb in a different room. The goal is to determine which switch controls the light bulb by only being able to enter the room with the switches once.

2. What is the purpose of the "Find Out Which Switch Turns On Light Bulb" brain teaser?

The purpose of the brain teaser is to exercise logical thinking and problem-solving skills. It challenges individuals to think critically and come up with a solution by using deduction and reasoning.

3. Is there a specific strategy to solve the "Find Out Which Switch Turns On Light Bulb" brain teaser?

There are a few different strategies that can be used to solve the brain teaser. Some common approaches include flipping each switch one at a time and observing the results, or using a process of elimination by ruling out switches that do not control the light bulb.

4. Are there any variations of the "Find Out Which Switch Turns On Light Bulb" brain teaser?

Yes, there are many variations of the brain teaser that involve different numbers of switches and light bulbs, as well as different rules and constraints. Some may have multiple light bulbs, while others may allow for multiple trips to the room with the switches.

5. What does the "Find Out Which Switch Turns On Light Bulb" brain teaser teach us?

The brain teaser teaches us the importance of critical thinking and problem-solving skills. It also highlights the value of patience, persistence, and creativity in finding solutions to complex problems.
