Hi,

Can anybody explain in a few words what the "spin glass" is ? Can a material that exhibits a magnetic hysteresis (ferromagnetism) at both 5 K and 300 K be in a way a "spin-glass" also ? As recently, we have measured a material that despite the fact it is exhibiting a magnetic loop at any temperature between 5 K and 300 K, with some shifts in the magnetization for the different tempartures, it shows different curves for the magnetization versus temperature at field-cooled and zero-field-cooled conditions, with a "transition temperature around 20 K.

Thanks

. A spin glass is a type of disordered magnetic material where the interactions between the spins are random and the spins themselves are randomly oriented. It can exhibit "glassy" behavior, such as slow relaxation or non-equilibrium effects, as well as long-ranged correlations and an absence of long-range order at low temperatures. A material that exhibits ferromagnetism at both 5 K and 300 K cannot be a spin glass as ferromagnetism implies a long-range order of spins. However, if the material exhibits the features mentioned above (slow relaxation, non-equilibrium effects, etc.) and a transition temperature around 20 K, then it may be a spin glass.

1. What is the purpose of the phrase "Hi, Can anybody explain in a few words what the..."?
