Feso4 is not a primary standard?

In summary, Feso4, or ferrous sulfate, is not considered a primary standard due to its impurities which can affect its accuracy and precision in laboratory experiments. A primary standard is a highly pure substance with a known and exact concentration, making it more reliable for use in experiments. However, Feso4 can still be used as a standard if its impurities are accounted for. Some alternative primary standards include potassium hydrogen phthalate, sodium carbonate, and potassium permanganate. The concentration of Feso4 can be determined through standardization, which involves titrating it with a primary standard and using the volume and concentration of the primary standard to calculate its concentration.

Hi

It cannot be a primary standard. Because it is not stable. A primary standard must be cheap, inert (stable), etc... You may want to do a google search about "primary standards".

You need to know the characteristics of a primary standard to answer the question, as some of the ones that chem tr has mentioned.

1. Why is Feso4 not considered a primary standard?

Feso4, or ferrous sulfate, is not considered a primary standard because it is not a pure substance. It usually contains impurities, which can affect its accuracy and precision in laboratory experiments.

2. What is a primary standard and how is it different from Feso4?

A primary standard is a highly pure substance that can be used to accurately determine the concentration of a solution. Unlike Feso4, primary standards have a known and exact concentration, making them more reliable for use in experiments.

3. Can Feso4 still be used as a standard in laboratory experiments?

While Feso4 is not considered a primary standard, it can still be used as a standard in laboratory experiments. However, its impurities must be taken into account and corrected for in calculations to ensure accurate results.

4. What are some alternative primary standards to Feso4?

Some common alternative primary standards include potassium hydrogen phthalate, sodium carbonate, and potassium permanganate. These substances have known and exact concentrations and are highly pure, making them more suitable for use in experiments.

5. How can I determine the concentration of Feso4 if it is not a primary standard?

The concentration of Feso4 can be determined by using a technique called standardization. This involves titrating a solution of Feso4 with a primary standard, and then using the volume and concentration of the primary standard to calculate the concentration of the Feso4 solution.
