In summary, success for an engineer can be defined in various ways, such as creating a groundbreaking invention, inspiring others, making a positive impact in society, establishing a successful tech or engineering company, or providing valuable consulting services. However, obtaining a degree, gaining work experience, and obtaining a P.Eng license are crucial steps towards being considered a successful engineer. To truly make it "big," one may need to work hard and potentially start their own company in order to achieve financial success. Ultimately, success is subjective and can be defined differently by each individual.

just wondering how u guys consider if an engineer is sucessful or not?

for example,

- come up with the next big invention in technology?
- inspire the younger generation with your area of work?
- make meaningful contribution to the society?
- setting up a successful tech/engineering company?
- do consulting?

How to make it 'big'? It isn't showbusiness.

'Success' is purely subjective.

I would consider all of the things you listed as things that would make an engineer successful. I am working towards becoming an engineer eventually.

In my opinion being a successful engineer would be getting your degree, then the proper work experience and obtaining a P.Eng license. Then you can actually call yourself an engineer. After that I would consider one a successful engineer if they are holding a position in the field of engineering and making enough money to support oneself or a family.

If you want to make it "big" you better start working hard now and probably launch your own company. On average a professional engineers salary is usually pretty damn good but I wouldn't consider it "making it big".

I believe that success in engineering can be measured in various ways. Some may consider success as coming up with the next big invention in technology, while others may see it as making a meaningful contribution to society or inspiring the younger generation. Ultimately, success in engineering is a combination of these factors and more.

To make it big in engineering, one must have a strong foundation in the fundamentals of the field, as well as a passion for problem-solving and innovation. It is important to continuously learn and stay updated with the latest advancements in technology and engineering.

One way to achieve success in engineering is by coming up with groundbreaking inventions or solutions that have a significant impact on society. This requires a combination of creativity, critical thinking, and technical skills. It also involves being able to identify gaps and needs in the market and developing innovative solutions to address them.

Another aspect of success in engineering is inspiring the younger generation. As engineers, we have a responsibility to share our knowledge and expertise with the next generation. This can be done through mentorship, teaching, or participating in outreach programs that promote STEM education. By inspiring and nurturing the future engineers, we are contributing to the growth and progress of the field.

Making a meaningful contribution to society is also a vital aspect of success in engineering. Whether it is through developing sustainable technologies, improving healthcare systems, or creating solutions for social issues, engineers have the potential to positively impact society. By using our skills and knowledge to address real-world problems, we can make a difference in people's lives and contribute to the betterment of society.

Setting up a successful tech or engineering company is also a common measure of success in the field. This requires not only technical expertise but also strong business acumen and leadership skills. It involves identifying market opportunities, managing resources effectively, and building a strong team of professionals.

Finally, consulting can also be a successful career path for engineers. This involves using one's expertise to provide advice and solutions to clients in various industries. It requires a deep understanding of the field and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical individuals.

In conclusion, success in engineering is multifaceted and can be achieved through various paths. It requires a combination of technical skills, innovation, and a desire to make a positive impact on society. By continuously learning, staying updated with the latest advancements, and using our skills to solve real-world problems, we can make it big in engineering.
