Why is energy signal having a finite energy value and 'zero value of power'

In summary, energy signals have a finite energy value and zero value of power because their average power is calculated over a specific time period, while power signals have finite value of power and infinite value of energy due to their long duration. However, if there is zero average power, both energy and power signals will have infinite energy. This is a general concept that applies regardless of time.

Energy signal?

hai..
i want to know why is energy signal having a finite energy value and 'zero value of power'
similarly the power signal have finite value of power and an INFINITE VALUE OF ENERGY

HINT(S):
1) (Average) Power = (Total) Energy / time
2) [tex]Energy=\int(Power)dt[/tex]
3) How much time do you calculate over?

hi
it is the general concept irrespective of time

Yes, but a power signal lasts forever. A (finite) energy signal thus has 0 power. A power signal, because of how long it lasts (forever) will also have infinite energy. Unless there's 0 average power.

1. Why is energy signal having a finite energy value?

Energy signals have a finite energy value because they are confined to a specific time interval. Unlike power signals, which have an infinite energy value because they extend to infinity, energy signals have a limited duration and therefore a finite energy value.

2. Why does the energy signal have a 'zero value of power'?

The energy signal has a zero value of power because power is defined as the rate at which energy is transferred or consumed. Since energy signals have a finite energy value and are confined to a specific time interval, their power value would be zero since there is no transfer or consumption of energy over time.

3. How is the energy value of a signal determined?

The energy value of a signal is determined by calculating the area under the squared magnitude of the signal over its entire time interval. This integral gives us the total energy contained in the signal.

4. Can an energy signal have a negative value?

No, energy signals cannot have a negative value. Energy is a scalar quantity and therefore cannot have a negative value. The energy value of a signal is always positive, representing the total amount of energy contained in the signal.

5. What is the significance of the finite energy value of a signal?

The finite energy value of a signal is significant because it allows us to determine the total energy contained in the signal, which is important for various applications such as signal processing and communication systems. It also helps in distinguishing energy signals from power signals, which have infinite energy values and behave differently in terms of their energy consumption and transfer over time.
