Best institue in US To learn Photography

In summary, it is not necessary to have a degree in order to become a successful photographer. A strong portfolio and practical experience are often more valuable. A degree won't help you too much if you want to be a photographer. A good portfolio on the other hand will. A degree can't hurt and I can think of some situations in which it could help but most places want to see experience and nice photos, not a piece of paper that says you have a liberal arts degree. Thats my relatively limited photography experience.
