Breathalizer machines to be installed at midwest bars.

In summary, a small town is implementing breath testing machines in local bars to prevent customers from drinking and driving. This idea has been met with praise and questions about its potential impact on DUI fines and fees. However, it is suggested that law enforcement could focus on other offenses, such as cell phone use while driving, to make up for any potential decrease in revenue. It is hoped that the implementation of these machines will prioritize safety over financial gain.

In this small town, breath testing machines will be installed in the two local bars to ensure customers are not drinking and driving. WHAT A GREAT IDEA! Makes you wonder why no one thought of it till now. Perhaps it will cut down on DUI's? Hopefully...what I wonder is, how do the law enforcement people feel? DUI's bring in huge fees and fines because people most likely will continue to drink and drive...so if breath tests were installed in most bars (which they can't be that expensive, especially if they are mass marketed), would it eventually hurt the local government collecting these fines?

Local municipalities would be happy for all drunk driving (all public drunkenness for that matter) to stop. A speeding ticket might only be for 5-10% of the fine of a dui, but you don't have the court costs, the property damage, the time spent arresting, booking, and incarcerating the offender. If a locality wants to make money off tickets, there is an unending supply of speeders.

Hopefully they are all for it and it doesn't become another example of money over values or human life.

1. How do breathalyzer machines work?

Breathalyzer machines work by analyzing the amount of alcohol in a person's breath. When a person blows into the machine, the device measures the concentration of alcohol molecules in their breath and converts it into a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) level.

2. Are breathalyzer machines accurate?

Yes, breathalyzer machines are generally accurate. However, their accuracy can be affected by factors such as calibration, maintenance, and proper usage. It is important to regularly calibrate and maintain the machines to ensure accurate readings.

3. Can I refuse to take a breathalyzer test at a bar?

Yes, you have the right to refuse a breathalyzer test at a bar. However, this may result in consequences such as being denied entry into the bar or being asked to leave. Also, if you are suspected of driving under the influence, refusing a breathalyzer test may result in legal consequences.

4. How will breathalyzer machines impact the bar experience?

Breathalyzer machines may impact the bar experience by promoting responsible drinking habits and reducing the likelihood of alcohol-related incidents. They may also provide a sense of security for both patrons and bar owners.

5. Will bar owners be required to have breathalyzer machines?

The installation of breathalyzer machines at bars is not currently required by law. However, some states have laws that require bars to have breathalyzer machines available if requested by a customer. Additionally, many bars voluntarily choose to install these machines as a safety measure.
