Ride Frequency of a Suspension

In summary, calculating ride frequency for a vehicle involves considering parameters such as ride rate, sprung mass, right comfort level, type of vehicle, terrain, weight, and type of tires. These variables must be addressed before proper springs can be selected, as seen in the post "Race car suspension Class" on Jul22-09 at 11:03 AM by Ranger Mike, who also suggests reading another post for background on basic spring rate calculations.

It is an army troop carrier.
It is an off road vehicle.
Its GVW is 12 Ton and payload is 2 Ton.
Tyres used are 10R20 crossply...

i am out of my league on this one but suspect the math is the same..suggest you read the following post as background on basic spring rate calculations

What is the ride frequency of a suspension?

The ride frequency of a suspension refers to the number of oscillations or movements that a suspension system makes in a given time period. It is typically measured in hertz (Hz) or cycles per second.

Why is the ride frequency important?

The ride frequency of a suspension is important because it affects the comfort, handling, and performance of a vehicle. A higher ride frequency can provide a smoother ride, while a lower ride frequency may result in a stiffer ride.

What factors affect the ride frequency of a suspension?

The ride frequency of a suspension can be affected by several factors, including the spring rate, damping rate, weight of the vehicle, and geometry of the suspension system. These factors all contribute to the overall stiffness and responsiveness of the suspension.

How can the ride frequency be adjusted?

The ride frequency of a suspension can be adjusted by changing the spring rate, damping rate, or geometry of the suspension system. This can be done by replacing or adjusting the springs, shocks, or other components of the suspension.

What is the ideal ride frequency for a suspension?

The ideal ride frequency for a suspension depends on the specific vehicle and its intended use. In general, a ride frequency that provides a balance of comfort and handling is considered ideal. This may vary for different types of vehicles, such as sports cars, off-road vehicles, or luxury sedans.
